Apple says its apps are optimized for Duo. These features put the second display to work.

Camera

Camera

The outer display becomes a viewfinder for the people in front.

Apple says Duo Preview shows the live camera preview on the outer display so subjects can check their framing, and Kid Cue plays Peanuts animations there to catch a child's attention.

FaceTime

Share both cameras, or let a friend join from the outer display.

Apple says Dual Capture shares the front and rear camera feeds at the same time, and Duo FaceTime lets someone next to you join the call using the outer display and camera.

Two windows side by side, and alerts when a page changes.

Apple says Split View lets you open a second Safari window for comparison shopping, and Notify Me watches web pages for changes like restocks or price drops.

Siri

Chat with Siri on one side while you look at content on the other.

Apple says you can talk with Siri AI while viewing content on the other side of the screen, and that Siri becomes even more useful on the large inner display. Siri AI is rolling out in beta with iOS 27.

Phone layout when folded. A roomier reading layout when open.

Inoreader says it has adapted the app for Duo: its familiar phone layout when folded, an iPad-style reading layout when unfolded, and a compact layout in split screen.

Your day on a timeline, on whichever display is open.

The developer says SuperPlanner follows the display you are using, with a sidebar beside the day view on the inner display and the current activity's tasks when folded halfway. It lists iOS 27.1 on iPhone Duo as a requirement.
